America's Telability Media
More than 1420 mass media resources that servepeople with disabilities are contained in the sixth edition (2000-01) of America's Telability Media, a disability media directory published by the National Telability Media Center in Colombia, MO. Directory entries describe the resource and provide contact information, web sites and e-mail addresses of magazines, newspapers, newsletters, broadcast producers, columnists, dial-in newspapers for the blind, and professional organizations. The directory also notes action this past year by the Federal Communications Commission to mandate descriptive video for analog television and to require closed captioning for digital TV. For economic reasons, some publishers are discontinuing their print formats in favor of the web. Growth has also been slow but steady in the field of dial-in newspapers and in new books written by practitioners of telability media. The directory is available free at www.freedomforum.org, provided in partnership with the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University. Copies are also available in print or on disk in Word format for $40 per copy. Mailing labels can be purchased on disk or through e-mail, with unlimited use for $150. Mail checks or money orders to Telability.
