Charlie Brown Around Town Designs Wanted
St. Paul's community art project tribute to Charles Schulz is looking for people to submit designs of painted polyurethane Charlie Brown statues that will line the cityís streets this summer. Designs are due by Monday, April 23. The 5x3.5í statues will be sponsored by area businesses and auctioned off Sept. 30 at the Mall of America. Proceeds will fund scholarships at the Art Instruction School and the College of Visual Arts and go toward a permanent bronze Peanuts Gang sculpture in downtown St. Paul. Submit up to three designs and paint or add sculptural elements to the statue but do not change the basic pose or form of Charlie Brown. All designs must be approved by the Schulz family, United Media and Creative Associates, and rights are assigned to United Features Syndicate. Designs may not be political, derogatory or contain corporate logos or commercial identities. Artists whose designs are selected will receive $1000 honoraria to cover materials and other expenses. Selected artists may participate in the Charlie Brown Around Town Paint Off, May 19-22. Light Rail System Seeks Artwork Commissions
The Hiawatha Line, Minnesota's first Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, is seeking artists to submit qualifications to be considered for artwork commissions for 15 to 17 stations and offices. Opportunities include designs and materials inlaid into surfaces; treatments of the shelters, fences, tree grates and lighting; interactive multimedia works; ceramic murals; and sculpture. Applicants may apply for up to 3 commissions and may apply as individuals or as collaborative team members. Applications are due by April 27. Insights 2001 Seeks Artwork by Blind Artists
The San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery is presenting Insights, the 12th annual juried exhibit of artwork by people who are legally blind, July 12 through September 2 at the San Francisco City Hall Gallery. Slides are due by May 23. Short Story Contest for Minnesota Monthly
May 26 is the deadline to submit short fiction (1000-3000 words) for the Tamarack Award. Winner will be paid $400 one-time publishing rights and be included in the Nov. 2001 Minnesota Monthly magazine. Submit one original, unpublished piece of fiction (no novel excerpts), typed, double-spaced, with pages numbered. Include a cover sheet with your name, address, phone numbers and total word count. Call for Photography Minnesota at Minnetonka Center for the Arts
Minnetonka Center for the Arts (MCA) is now accepting proposals for an open statewide juried photo show in October 2001. All work will be juried by slides. Any content, any size. No video or film. Entry fee $5 per slide. 5 slides maximum per artist. Accepted artwork must be framed and ready to be hung. MCA holds an opening night reception and encourages artists to offer their work for sale. All sales are handled by MCA (30-40% commission depending on membership) and artwork sold must remain in the exhibit until it closes. Artists Wanted to Work this Summer with Twin Cities Youth
ArtsWork, COMPAS' latest project, is looking for professional visual artists to work this summer as Lead Artists with youth between ages 14-21 -- sharing experiences, giving career guidance and mentoring to Apprentice Artists hired to produce quality work.
Lead Artists will be hired from July 8 - August 17, 9 AM - 3 PM, $40/ hour.
MISSION STATEMENT: Summarize the general mission/artistic vision of your program.
NARRATIVE: Describe the focus of your project.
CURRICULUM: Detail the week-by-week assignments, exercises, field trips, etc. to demonstrate how the program will fulfill ArtsWork goals and offer an Apprentice job skills as well as artistic skills.
SUPPLIES: Provide a detailed account of all supplies and equipment, with vendor information and prices. Expenses not requested and approved in writing will not be funded.
Responsibilities: Interview Apprentice Artists on Friday, April 27 at 3 PM and Saturday, April 28 at 9 AM; implement curriculum; supervise Apprentices and Teaching Assistant; attend Orientation meeting; attend all staff meetings; attend Events; monitor all attendance and discipline records; clean and maintain work space; evaluate Apprentice Artists and program; close the program; pack up all supplies and art.
REQUIREMENTS: extensive academic training, possess a degree or demonstrate an equivalent combination of training and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Lead Artists must be mature, practicing professionals with 3-5 years of professional exhibitions. Solid background in teaching, particularly with urban youth (looking for at least 3 years of teaching diverse groups of youth ages 14-21).
