Morgan Grayce Willow publishes poetry chapbook
Finishing Line Press has selected a manuscript by Morgan Grayce Willow of Minneapolis for its New Women's Voices chapbook series. The chapbook, Arpeggio of Appetite, is a collection of cinquains, a form invented by American poet and scholar Adelaide Crapsey (1878-1914), to whom the volume is dedicated. Some have called the five-line, 22-syllable cinquain an American rendition of the Japanese haiku. Others find writing cinquain more suited to American English than the traditional 17-syllable haiku form.
Poet Deborah Keenan says: "we join this poet as she illuminates the small and large truths of a deeply observed life: eagles as predators, grief about war's steadfast presence, a lover's absence ("one/spine curling around one dreamt form"), the messages sent from dream time by crows, as well as who and what in our lives makes the light and the shadows. In this book, we meet "Grief's bright/flower," but we do not live in the grief. Instead, in a crystal cave, we discern harmonies and our poet convinces us of love's presence. These small lyrics impress and linger."
The chapbook price is $12. Orders may be placed with Finishing Line Press, P.O. Box 1626, Georgetown, KY 40324; Finishing Line Press (www.finishinglinepress.com) - click on "2005 New Releases" and scroll to Arpeggio of Appetite.
